Welcome & Thanks for Stopping By!
HI! We are Chip, Lindsay, Reid, & Bennett and in 2017-2018 we set off to discover new places, meet and re-connect with people, and help spread kindness
while enjoying a family gap year together. This is how โWe Hit Pauseโ came to fruition.
Since then we have embarked on countless mini-pauses: 3 months in US/Canada, winters in Hawaii and Mexico, summers in Europe.
Here on our website, we share our experiences, challenges, memories, photos, and hopefully some decent tips for you.
If you want to start at the beginning of our journey, start HERE!!

Holy smokes, Sintra. Where have you been all my life? The travel blogs I had researched and the recollections from friends back home did not prepare me for this vibrant & magical city at the foothills of the densely forested Sintra Mountains of Portugal. The historic city center with its narrow, steep streets, mustard-colored buildings, and inviting cafes would be enough to draw crowds. But if you gaze up into the forested terrain, youโll see there are even more jewels to explore. Palaces, villas, & castles fit for kings and queens await exploring. Prepare to be whisked away to this whimsical place called Sintra.
